IT ALL STARTED WITH UNCLE HARRY...
At the age of 12, Todd Lory began working for his Uncle Harry’s deli and catering business at 86th Street and Broadway in Manhattan. That successful family business lasted 65 years, and at age 30, Todd took on the position as General Manager of the famous Ben’s Deli. Todd had a passion for the deli business, and opened one of the area’s first Kosher Delis that featured Kosher Chinese food. After 12 years, Todd opened Lory’s Lakeside. Todd wanted to offer his customers much more than simply a bar and grill; he strived to offer fresh, homemade stocks, soups, salads, and comfort foods, all made from scratch. Fresh ideas, fresh foods, and the rest is history in the making!
I NEED A GOOD CHILLED SOUP. SUGGESTIONS?
In addition to the classic Gazpacho, there’s a host of chilled soups – Sweet Pea with Mint, Cucumber Avocado, Curried Zucchini, and Summer Borscht with Tzatziki to name a few.
I HAVE SOME COCONUT THAT’S TURNED DRY AND HARD. SHOULD I TOSS IT?
No. Put it in a strainer over a steaming pot of water for a few minutes to rehydrate it.
HOW MUCH WATER SHOULD I USE TO COOK QUINOA?
This high-protein substitute for pasta and rice comes in white (golden), red or black varieties. Use a ratio of 1 part quinoa to 2 parts water. Great with curry, grilled vegetables or braised meat.
